OMG—is Mother Nature bi-polar or what?! As I sit here on April 8, 2025, everything outside is covered in white! The first words out of my mouth this morning were, “What the heck?!” I live in a bit of a fishbowl (hello, giant windows), so I always get a full weather report the moment I open my eyes. I almost went back to bed!
I know spring is on its way… it usually pops in for a few fleeting weeks here in Canada, so fingers crossed it shows up soon. In the meantime, I’ve been keeping cozy and busy at my sewing machine, working on projects for our upcoming Quilt Show. It’ll be here before we know it, and I’ll be there bright and early Saturday morning, ready to admire all the beautiful quilts our amazing Guild has created!
March Meeting
Last month, we had a little mix-up with our scheduled guest, but it turned out to be a happy accident! Lynn Moore stepped in and absolutely delighted us with her presentation. She brought quilts in every stage of completion—some freshly finished, some just tops, some quilted but not yet bound, and even one that had been done ages ago with the binding still waiting to be sewn down. Now that’s my kind of quilter!
Sarah brought in Bernina’s newest machine to show off its impressive camera and scanner features. I didn’t get a chance to take a look myself—but judging by the crowd gathered around during the break, it was definitely a hit!
I wasn’t feeling my best that night, so my notes are a little shorter than usual. Sue gave us an update on how the Quilt Show is coming along. She held a meeting just before the general meeting, and it was well-attended—so it sounds like she’s got a great team behind her.
And one last thing worth celebrating—we had our best attendance of the year at this meeting! Woot woot!
Board Positions Available
Sheila shared an update on the positions that will be open at the end of this Guild year. We’ll be looking to fill the following roles:
Vice President
Secretary
Communications
Treasurer
Newsletter
Special Projects
Workshops
We already have some interest in the Treasurer and Newsletter positions, but we will be actively campaigning to fill the remaining roles throughout April. Elections will be held in May, so we’re eager to have all positions filled by then.
If you or someone you know is interested in contributing to the Guild in a meaningful way, please reach out!
April Meeting
There will be a short Quilt Show meeting at 6:15 PM, just before the general meeting, to check in and see what’s left to do.
Sue will be doing a demo on how to fold your quilts and tuck them neatly into a pillowcase. She’ll also go over how to make a proper hanging sleeve for your quilts—super helpful if you're entering the show!
Lawn signs are ready to be picked up! You can grab one at Sue’s house or at Wilton Creek Fabrics as soon as possible. Any extras will be available at the meeting.
Trunk show
We’re also thrilled to have Amanda Maass doing a trunk show this month! I can’t wait to see her quilts. Amanda designed and runs the Guild’s website, and I’ve been so impressed with everything she does—this is sure to be a great presentation.
Things to bring:
And don’t forget—bring a mug with a lid to the meeting!
The colour for April is yellow! 🌼
Don’t forget to bring a yellow fat quarter for the draw. Let’s brighten things up with some sunshine in fabric form!
Also bring some extra cash for the 50/50 draw.
Stitch and Chat
Thjere will be a stitch and chat but I am changing the time and place to Saturday. This link will get you on the chat each month thro out the year including the summer months. The time will remain the same from 12 to 2 or whenever we quit chatting. This will give everyone a chance to connect with other quilters from our guild plus any past or future members that want to chat with us, all summer long. Name tags
And finally if you ordered a name tag recently(they are ready) you will need to pay for it at the meeting when you pick it up. We prefer E-transfer but cash is always nice as well.
I hope to see everyone at the meeting!
Gail
